One of the great dangers we all face in Bible study is that of taking a particular passage, isolating it from all the rest of the scriptures, and make it teach a doctrine it was never meant to teach. The question asked in the title of this article, are works essential for Christian salvation, is easily answered by taking one such passage and doing exactly that. The passage is Eph. 2:8-9 which reads, “For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast.” (NKJV) We read that and immediately answer our question by saying no works are not essential for Christian salvation. The only problem with that is that it is the wrong answer.

There is a vast difference between saying we are not saved by works (which is true as stated in the passage quoted – one cannot earn his way to heaven) and saying works are not essential to salvation (saying one can sit back in his easy chair, sip tea, never raise a finger of obedience, and be saved). On the surface the statements seem to be in complete conformity with one another but that is because we do not always reason as closely as we should, often read more into statements than are there, and do not read the full context in which we find the statements. The very next verse coming after this Eph. 2:8-9 passage is verse 10 which reads, “For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.”

The man who takes Eph. 2:8-9 as eliminating the need for good works is saying then that even though we were “created in Christ Jesus for good works” we do not need to do any of them. God will save us without them. That is like saying in the parable of the vine and the branches (John 15) that one can be a branch that does not bear fruit and still be saved yet Jesus said, “every branch in me that does not bear fruit he (God – DS) takes away.” (John 15:2 NKJV) It is like saying in the parable of the talents (Matt. 25:14-30) that one need not use his talent for God will not “cast the unprofitable servant into the outer darkness” (Matt. 25:30 NKJV) contrary to what Jesus said who said that is exactly what would happen.

I was recently reading Matt. 25 talking about the judgment scene to come in the last day, the Day of Judgment. The reading begins in Matt. 25:31 and continues through verse 46, the end of the chapter. While it is obviously too long to quote here I will summarize it for you. Jesus is separating the sheep from the goats, the righteous from the unrighteous. What was the criteria being used to make the judgment? Works!

Did you feed the hungry? Did you give a drink to the thirsty? Did you take in the stranger who needed a place to go? Did you clothe the naked? Did you visit the sick and the imprisoned? The righteous did these things and entered into eternal life. The unrighteous did not do these works and their place of abode is described as “everlasting punishment” (Matt. 25:46 NKJV). They are called “cursed” and told to depart “into the everlasting fire prepared for the devil and his angels.” (Matt. 25:41 NKJV)

In the book of Romans, a book that talks much about justification by faith, we are told that on the Day of Judgment God “‘will render to each one according to his deeds’: eternal life to those who by patient continuance in doing good seek for glory, honor, and immortality.” (Rom. 2:6-7 NKJV) “Glory, honor, and peace to everyone who works what is good.” (Rom. 2:10 NKJV) Are works involved in one’s salvation? Sounds like it to me.

James says, “For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also.” (James 2:26 NKJV) Is a man saved, can a man be saved, by dead faith? To ask is to answer.

Jesus said, “I must work the works of him who sent me while it is day.” (John 9:4 NKJV) Has God not given us works to do? Was Jesus the only one required to work the works of God? Peter said while at Cornelius’ house, “in every nation whoever fears him (God – DS) and works righteousness is accepted by him.” (Acts 10:35 NKJV) Christianity is not just what you believe but also what you do and/or fail to do as the case may be.

In Matt. 7 we have Jesus speaking and making a contrast between the one who “hears these sayings of mine and does them” (Matt. 7:24 NKJV) and the one or ones “who hears these sayings of mine and does not do them” (Matt. 7:26 NKJV). The difference is between a house that stands and one that falls, “And great was its fall.” (Matt. 7:27 NKJV) The difference between standing versus a great fall was doing.

Christianity is not just about what one believes. Many have been led astray, swallowed false doctrine, and have become convinced that salvation is all about what they believe and very little about what they do or don’t do. Even obedience is called into question by some as being salvation by works. They are convinced they can disobey God or ignore his commands without consequence and receive salvation.

What is needed is faith that James spoke by inspiration when he said, “You see then that a man is justified by works, and not by faith only.” (James 2:24 NKJV) James goes so far as to say, “Therefore, to him who knows to do good and does not do it, to him it is sin.” (James 4:17 NKJV) Sin is the thing that condemns us and keeps us out of heaven. To do good (James 4:17) is to do works. The faith that saves is a very active faith involved in the continual doing of good. It is by works that faith is made perfect (James 2:22). “Faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead.” (James 2:17 NKJV)

Let me ask you a question which will get you to thinking and allow you to reach the proper conclusion on your own. Are Christians to be servants? If so does that involve service or works? Do you think a Christian who will not serve or be a servant will be saved? It is not hard to answer the question proposed in the title of this article correctly unless we are one of those who have allowed himself to be deceived by the faith only crowd.

No, we all know we cannot work our way to heaven, “not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, through the washing of regeneration (baptism – DS) and renewing of the Holy Spirit” (Titus 3:5 NKJV) but when the faith we hold is a faith that leads us to disobedience rather than to obedience we ought to realize this is not the same faith held by Peter, James, John, Paul, and the other writers of the New Testament. It is possible to “have a zeal for God, but not according to knowledge.” (Rom. 10:2 NKJV) A person who believes he can and will be saved by faith alone, no need to concern oneself with obeying commandments, is just as deeply in error as the man who believes he can do enough good works and obey perfectly enough to be saved. Both hold and believe error.

I close this article saying that I know as well as you we are saved by the grace of God, the blood of Jesus, by faith, by gospel obedience, etc. but I also know we cannot be saved without works. If so, if we can, then someone please write an article and post it on how Jesus was unjust in his judgment of those in Matthew 25 who did not provide food, drink, clothing, etc. for those in need. If one can be saved without works then Jesus did not judge justly in Matthew 25 and James is a false teacher. It is really that simple.

How do you get thousands of people to change they way work? Workplace consultant Andrew Mawson shares tips from his company’s recent work on some of Europe’s largest flexible or advanced working projects.

Asking several thousand people to change the way they work to take on advanced working is a big ask. But that’s what some major organisations have been doing recently as they have adopted advanced working to improve their business performance.

Advanced working is all about recognising that people can (and do) work in myriad different places and times both in and out of the office. It’s about re-setting workplace arrangements for a modern world where assets are used to their full and where people have the tools to allow them to be as efficient as they can be.

The benefits of advanced working are well documented and include: reductions in space between 20-30 per cent; improved employee effectiveness; zero churn costs; minimal swing space requirement; work life balance; reduced travel; lower carbon footprint; improved team work; ease of setting up cross-functional teams; and improved relationships.

To introduce advanced working all you have to do is to work out the best new working arrangements for the organisation and the individual, make sure the space and technology infrastructure will support mobility in and out of the office and then take people with you on a ‘thought journey’ where every one of the several thousand people in the organisation have the chance to get comfortable with the changes. Simple right?

Although advanced working is a relatively straightforward idea, when people have fixed ideas about work and ‘their workplace’, and have grown up in a world where the higher you get in status terms, the more you get in facilities terms, it takes quite a lot of energy, influence and power to change behaviours and attitudes. Let’s face it people have been doing the nine to five in the office and I have ‘my desk’ routine for well over a 100 years. It shouldn’t come as a surprise that people need some help in coming to terms with what is for some a very significant change.

Let’s say you are the head of FM or real estate for a large organisation and you have a desire to instil more modern workplace and ways of working. The first thing you need to do is find an opportunity. These usually come from the following scenarios:

- The acquisition of a new building or the refurbishment of additional premises
- The desire to rationalise space, sometimes as a result of a merger, takeover or ‘downsizing’
- Running out of space due to business growth
- Desire to change the culture of the business

For some FMs it’s much easier to do things the way they have always been done. The idea of trying to convince the board and several thousand people to change is, for some FMs, just too scary. But if you want to demonstrate that you are an innovative leader trying to contribute from your discipline and can put FM on the map in your organisation, then here is your chance.

You need a spark to light the bonfire. In order to get senior people interested so that they can release funds and time to investigate the subject fully, you need an outline business case that sets out in rough terms the scale of the opportunity and the benefits to the organisation. This must ‘tune in’ and relate to the current challenges the business unit faces if it is to be compelling. It must also give some indication of how long the payback will take. Although cost is an important feature in this business case, issues such as productivity, culture, environment and agility may sway some team members.

FIND THE ENTHUSIASTS WITH POWER

But of course even the best outline business case is hopeless without someone to sell it for you in the board room and argue the case when you’ve done your presentation, so you need to find someone at senior level for whom it makes sense and who will spend time to understand the subtleties and arguments and be an advocate for your cause.

As well as FM, the other key players in applying advanced working are in the IT and HR functions. They own a substantial part of the infrastructure needed to make advanced working happen. So try to build a coalition between the functions so that you can understand each others strategies and priorities and work out how best to influence them. Do this early in your process, but don’t stop if you find that they have other priorities. If you can come up with a shared strategy which you and they can share and present, you will be onto a winner

SECURE LEADERS’ COMMITMENT

Imagine that you are on the board and you have a unit of 5,000 people. Your unit has been asked to make the transition to advanced working by the head of FM as part of a relocation to a new building. You and your team are working long and hard already to deliver today’s business. You have plenty on your plate already without embarking on a major culture change programme. Sometimes, while the cultural and operational benefits are on offer to the user unit, the financial benefit of reduced space costs fall to the central real estate and FM function. So you are going to need not only a compelling case to convince those with the purse strings to part with money to create the right infrastructure, you are also going to need to present a compelling case to the leaders of the unit to which you plan to introduce the concept. They will have different styles, experiences and interest in the subject. They will need to dedicate time and energy to getting their people to work differently, so you’ve got to tune in to the things they are interested in.

A VISIT PAINTS A MILLION WORDS

Not only will you have to find the benefits of advanced working that will make a difference to them and their units, you will also have to help the leaders to understand how it really works. You can talk to them until you are blue in the face, but nothing is better than arranging a visit to an organisation that has applied advanced working on a large scale. It helps to explain the subject, provides evidence that it
works and give some re-assurance that it can be done.

DISPEL MISCONCEPTIONS

Sadly, senior people have as many misconceptions about advanced working concepts as the rest of the population. The only difference is that they have more power and often their ideas and beliefs become enshrined in ‘law’. Old fashioned ideas will prevail unless they are challenged and corrected, but who is brave enough to do that? Have you ever tried to challenge a senior business leader in a public forum… not a good idea. Much better to try to organise one-to-ones where you might be able to put the other view. As a consultant, slightly immune from the corporate power hierarchy and with external experience it’s sometimes easier to enter into a challenging debate with a business leader. You might lose the account, but you won’t lose your job.

GOVERNANCE

The aggregation of power and the gaining of a shared understanding and agreement is critical if you are going to be able to implement advanced working across a large organisation. Consistency and fairness of treatment is vital if you are going to avoid tensions. If one unit is doing something different to another or if one manager is interpreting the protocols differently you can expect people to express indignation or to make similar interpretations. So setting up a steering group chaired by a senior leader and made up of powerful business leaders from the units to be involved is the first step. Then similarly setting up a group from within each unit you plan to implement in and finally to recruit change agents who can work with you to deliver the help their colleagues to make sense of the change for themselves.

PILOTS

It’s unwise to apply advanced working for the first time in your organisation on a large scale without first having piloted the concept somewhere on a small scale. Why? Because until you do you will have little idea of the attitudinal and behavioural challenges ahead; you’ll have little by way of experience and arguments to convince others to change; and because you will not have clarity about what you are offering and the ‘components’ that are needed to deliver.

It’s inevitable, regardless of how many times as a consultant you have implemented advanced working, organisations need to learn for themselves the intricacies of implementing advanced working. In practice people want to see it working somewhere in the organisation before they’ll trust you to apply it on a large scale. So pilots are a key component. Not only do they give you a chance to learn, modify and monitor, but it’s only through piloting that you’ll be in a position to develop what we call ‘The kit of parts’ in other words all the policies, protocols, systems, spaces components and change processes needed to make it happen smoothly. The devil, I’m afraid, is right down in the detail.

GET CLEAR ABOUT THE PROPOSITION

Advanced Working is often misunderstood or open to interpretation. Everyone has their own idea about what it is and what it isn’t. One group will think it’s all about working from home, another will think it’s about hot desking, yet another will think it’s about flexitime. The proposition should explain what advanced working means in practice; what is mandatory and optional; the rules and protocols and where they apply; and the supporting technology.

DON’T FORGET THE PEOPLE

If there are 5,000 people in scope for the project, we need to make sure that all 5,000 people have been engaged in a dialogue so they really understand what it’s all about and can make sense of it and become comfortable to make the shift in behaviour needed. They have to re-learn the way to work.

To make this happen you need consistency of message, consistency of material and consistency of style and approach. We’ve found that the way to do this is through a network of influential, articulate change agents recruited by the steering groups and trained to be able to work out how advanced working will be applied to their group and to be effective in dealing with the engagement with their colleagues. The objective is to get 80 per cent of people ready for the change so that when they eventually start the advanced working people wonder what all the fuss was about.

IT’S NOT ALL OVER ONCE THE DOORS OPEN

When you move in to the new space or when you switch the booking system on is not the end of the change process but the beginning of the second phase. Sadly some people will not have been entirely engaged through the process and of course you will have new joiners who won’t have had any exposure to the ideas and solutions. So the change process needs to keep going until the change has become a natural part of business as usual.

There’s a need to be continual monitored through the early days to make sure sharing ratios (the relationship between the number of people in a team and the number of spaces they have been allocated) are effective and that people are conforming with protocols hat have been agreed for work and use of space. So two years later you’ve managed to bring about an evolution in the space, technology and people from the old world to the new. Your influence has brought about a change for everyone in the organisation and it’s all gone smoothly. What a great feeling, you’ve made a difference – isn’t that what great FM is all about?

Opportunities to apply advanced working come from scenarios such as:

1. new building acquisition or refurbishment
2. rationalising space due to growth, merger, takeover or downsizing
3. forging change in the culture of a business

The most important thing that is needed to be done by every person who is working is to love the work he or she is doing and also have regard for the people who bring them the work. Doing this you will help yourself and not anyone else. You need to remember that work is the most important thing that you can have for yourself. You have to learn to love your work and then only you will be able to remain happy and satisfied with whatever you do. Make the most of what you do, in fact give your 100 percent to it. It may be possible that you are not satisfied with your current job. If it is so then you can give your nest job everything that it takes to perform well. You have to work with complete effort. You should always carry on and never stop. You should in fact not even slow down. The more you work the further you will move in your career.

The worse thing for a person is not getting work. If you do not get to work for a certain period of time then there are chances that it will get more and more difficult with passing time. This is why A. Harrison Barnes, the owner of Hound.com, suggests that you should value your job and try to do it with full commitment even if you don’t like it that much. Remember that at the end of the month, it is the pay check that you get from your job that helps you sustain. Further, if you are sincere with your work your employer as well as people around you will appreciate your hard work and will give you more work to do. They will understand that you are fully committed to your work and will do it with full efficiency and thus will appreciate your effort and give you more work to do. Always remember that work attracts work.

If you pay respect to your work then in return your work will give you what you have always wanted. It will give you the happiness, the satisfaction and the relief that you get after working hard. You should consider the every day at work as an exciting day of your life. This way you will be able to enjoy the work you do. You would always be in the state of depression and frustration without getting to do some work. If they are happy with your performance then they will give you more tasks to perform. You should not suspect people who give you work. That is the biggest mistake made by many. You should understand that it is through work you run your family. And the person who is giving you work is actually helping you to run your family. Thus you should respect that person and not suspect.

If possible you should even at times work for free believes A. Harrison Barnes. He says so because he feels that there is no harm in helping someone by doing the work for free. And you will be able to work for others for free only if you love your work. If you work for free for few then it will do no harm to you. There are many who will even not take advantage of you ever. Many of us have toyed with the idea of working from home, but can it really be done? Saving money from transportation costs, not worrying about shipping the kids off to daycare, and knowing that you can wake up in the morning and walk five feet to your office sure sounds like a great plan. You see websites and ads about how to work from home, but some of them seem too good to be true.

If you really want to make a living from home, you have to be prepared for a lot of hard work and know the right places to look for legitimate ways to make money. Before you look into ways to work from home you need to consider what working from home really means. Sure we all want to be our own boss, but is it really that easy to do? You have to follow tasks and deadlines without supervision, be able to problem solve without having anyone to fall back on for questioning, and still be able to push aside any distractions you may have at home and focus on the work in front of you. It is a tall order to fill and working from home is not for everyone.

One of the easiest and most effective ways to make money working from home is starting up your own in home call center. A lot of companies are now hiring individuals to work from home taking inbound calls or even making outbound calls to customers or future prospects. A majority of these companies will provide you with online training, equipment needed, and any programs that are required. You will find flexible hours as you work from home by running a call center, but as with any great plan, there can be some disadvantages. Pay is usually low and sometimes starts at .00 per hour. Most of these companies do not provide benefits since you are a private contractor; which means you will have to obtain your own private insurance. Another disadvantage about working from home as a call center is that you must provide the optimum work environment. That means no barking dogs, loud televisions, or children screaming in the background. You will have to provide yourself a quiet work space, land line, and a computer hooked up to high speed internet to even qualify for these positions. However if you want to work from home, at-home call centers are effective in generating an income.

Though not as guaranteed, you can work from home by starting your own web-based business. Perhaps you have a hobby or craft that you can market to the general public? Whether that craft is handmade jewelry or something more elaborate like marketing, a web-based business can be very beneficial for you to work from home. There are some things to consider if you plan to work from home with a web-based business though. You have to be able to build your website, learn effective networking, and have a product that you can sell to the public. Typically web-based business will require a lot of start-up capital. Websites and products cost money, but as long as you market your product effectively you should be able to make up for it in the end.

You can also work from home by writing. Start a blog and use effective skills with Google Ads to generate an income. Market your blog to friends, family, and the general public and draw more people to your site daily. After you gain popularity you can even charge people to read your blog through monthly subscription fees. It is important to remember that if you are going to work from home while blogging you realize the income may be slow at first. Without an effective marketing strategy you will not bring traffic to your site. No traffic equals little to no income.

There are several ways you can effectively work from home, but they require some work. Though there are websites out there that claim you can work from home and generate a ridiculous amount of money while only working for one hour a day that is simply not realistic. To work from home you have to be able to dedicate hours out of your day and be prepared to do a lot of research. Whether you plan to work from home by starting a web-based business, making your own in-home call center, or even just writing a blog, they all require persistence. Working from home can have great advantages for parents or even individuals trying to go to school while working. As long as you know where to look for opportunities to work from home, you can successfully make an income and still enjoy your life.

The idea of a work boot probably has you thinking of a steel toe boot that laces high with plenty of padding and extra protection. Well you wouldn’t be wrong in that idea as that would indeed be one type of work boot. However, if you work in a less hazardous environment you could still want protective comfortable footwear and that would still be a work boot. What a non-metallic construction means is you can safely wear these work shoes for flying.

There are specific work boots that will offer up protection from the elements, piercing to the sole and protect against heavy items being dropped on your feet. These are what we commonly associate with work boot. A very plain leather Mary Jane style shoe could be classed as work wear just as easily as a heavily protective high-rise boot. A work boot is whatever you need it to be, if you need smart and functional then that is still a work boot. The one thing any work boot will have in common is comfort.

Comfort is paramount in our working lives. A day doing our job is made much harder if we feel any kind of discomfort. If you have ever had an ill-fitting work boot you had to wear all day then you will understand why comfort is so important. Other than protection, that a work boot can offer you there is probably the look of the boot you want to look at. Something like the Magnum M9 low steel toe work boot gives outstanding styling but you get a full package of protection. If you can get fashionable and very wearable, work boots then why not have them.

People choose to wear a work boot outside of work too. The main reason is the comfort, once you find comfort and style in one shoe you will go back for more. Let’s face it if you have comfort in your work boot then there’s no reason you can’t have it in your leisure boots as well. If you do need a specific color or style type from your work boot then there is plenty out there to choose from. A work boot is probably something you have to spend quite a lot of money on right. Wrong, there are plenty websites out there that offer vastly discounted prices even on the big name brands. Therefore, if you want Rockport for work and thought you couldn’t afford it then think again. Your feet may need the added protection of safety footwear but you may as well have some good-looking work boot rather than just a functional ugly thing you hate. Working from home is becoming more and more common place. Whether this is stuffing envelopes, proof reading or as an e-business the number of people working from home is growing with people’s needs for flexibility. In response, companies are becoming more flexible with their employees and more businesses are being run from home. Although this is often an exciting time of new opportunities and freedom, people often do not receive the advice to work from home they need. It can be difficult to stay disciplined and achieve the success of earning that extra income or time freedom. To aid your new adventure, here are some frequently asked questions to help you work from home and achieve the success you deserve.

How do I make sure I get work done?

The answer is simply, discipline. Identify when you work well and when you don’t. Structure your day around this so that you are as productive as possible. Once you have this schedule, stick to it! Taking regular breaks can help too. As long as you are focusing when you need to get the work done.

Yes, but I keep getting distracted. How do I stay focused?

Create an area where you can work. So look at this as a designated area where you can focus on work. Move this away from the kids, the pets and the TV. Separate your work from your home by shutting a door to all the things you love, enabling you to get into the right frame of mind and get the job done.

How do i stop my friends and family from distracting me?

This is common too. Try sharing what you are doing with your friends and family. This ensures that they know when it is work time and when it is time to play. Otherwise, they may expect you to start doing chores or helping them out in your valuable work time.

How do I know when I have done enough work for the day?

Without a boss looking over your shoulder it can be hard to know when you have done enough. Remember you are your employer and employee. Set yourself some targets for the day and work towards them. This enables you to appraise your own performance. If you are missing your targets ask yourself why. You can change the way you do something to make yourself more efficient the next time you do it.

How do I stop myself from overworking?

When you finish for the day don’t go back to your work again. Use the time to relax and refocus your energies. Use the time you have scheduled to do work and the rest as free time. After all, this is why you chose to work from home – To get more time freedom? Write anything down on a pad and come back to it tomorrow in your ‘work’ frame of mind.

I often feel guilty working from home and don’t have any breaks?

Ovid said “Take rest; A field that has rested gives a beautiful crop”. Just because you don’t have a specific time to go to lunch now you still need to rest. Having plenty of rest is a great way of making sure that you stay in tip top condition when you are working. Allowing you to be more productive when you work from home than if you were in an office.

How do I stay positive without someone there to motivate me?

We all have those days when it gets on top of us. We want to throw in the towel for the day. This is easy to do when you are at home. Instead, take a quick break. Refocus on what you need to do and get straight back on that task. It is too easy to quit when you don’t have a boss to answer to. To be successful you need to keep going.

How do I get better at what I am doing without anyone to tell me otherwise?

Make sure you know how you are doing. Give yourself regular appraisals when you work from home and track your progress. You are your boss and the employee so be honest so that you can make the changes going forward to make it better in the future. Ask family members or friends for their input, especially if they are close to your work. They can add a perspective that you cannot.

Working from home is not always as easy as it firsts suggests. Keep focused on your task in hand and set yourself some rules. If you can do this, you will really unleash the power of working from home and how you can turn this into true ‘life’ success.

In todays economy it is an attractive proposition to go back to working at home. You may be asking is that worded right? Well yes it is. You see the world once operated on a largely work at home industry model. When you consider Farming, Artisanship, Cottage Industries, and Sub contracting Businesses like, Outsourcing, Direct Sell and Home Business Models that always have operated out of the persons home, then really we are not talking about anything new as far as the work model of working at home or from your home.

A glimpse of Preindustrial Societies before the first Industrial Revolution of 1790, show that most people were in agricultural work and Artisanship was their main form of production until the Industrial Revolution brought about Mass Production and division of labor to support it. Also then emerged many other Societal and Cultural changes the took people away from time spent at home to time spent at work, school, community support organizations and many other areas of development [Wikipedia Preindustrial society].

Historically women often worked mostly at home. Industry records around the 1840′s onward started to study the number of women and men in the workplace and at home. According to a BBC Report, British History in Depth, Womens Work, Studies of 1851 Census Records of England provinces and of London showed that Domestic Services was the largest Employment Industry of Women. The textile and clothing sectors came a close second. Women were also found in large numbers in metal-wares and pottery and in a variety of petty trades, especially in towns: confectionery, brewing and other provisioning, seamstressing, laundry work, cleaning and retailing. Until around the World War II Era the record keeping had large gaps of information and lapses in time periods of Reporting was common. [BBC Report British History in Depth Womens Work].

An artisan was and still is a skilled manual worker who made (or makes) items that may be functional or strictly decorative, including furniture, clothing, jewelry, household items, and tools. The term can also refer to the craft of hand making food products, such as bread, beverages and cheese. They commonly Manufacture by hand and with hand tools imparting unique and individual qualities to artisan products, in contrast to mass produced goods where every one is nearly identical. Artisans traditionally work in media such as stone, wood, ceramics, glass, common and precious metals, basketry, textiles, esparto glass, leather, fur, wax, paper, and flowers [Wikipedia Artisian].

Urban Artisans in Early America, before the transformation, shared a workshop that had a paternalistic and familial atmosphere. The master housed his family on the upper floors above his workshop, which also included young apprentices. The Artisan workshop prior to the turn of the 19th century was a blend of work, fellowship, and fun. Artisans ate, drank, and had lively discussions. The end of this era began with the first industrial revolution as merchants and capitalists seized more profits from artisans, forcing the artisans to produce more, and require larger places of business with higher demands on workers, ending the fellowship common to the early Artisans [Economic Transformation of the Artisan in Early America Jul 28, 2010 William L. In Putting-Out, prominent from the 15th -19th centuries, work was contracted by a central agent to subcontractors who completed the work in their own facility, usually their own home. Although significant variation occurred, almost all of the contractors manufactured parts or fitted them through a highly decentralized, putting-out process using small workshops and highly skilled labor. The advantages of this system were that workers involved could work at their own speed while at home or, because they knew that in their home children working in the system would be better treated than they would have been in the factory system, although the homes were polluted by the toxins from the raw materials. The development of Putting-Out as a trend is often considered to be a form of proto-industrialization and remained prominent until the Industrial Revolution of the 19th century. It was mostly centralized in Western Europe and did not take a strong hold in Eastern Europe. The raw materials were often provided by the merchant, who received the finished product, hence the synonymous term putting-out system. It existed as early as the 15th century but was most prominent in the 17th and 18th centuries. It was replaced by inside contracting and the factory system. [Wikipedia Putting-out system].

A Cottage Industry is an industry, primarily manufacturing, that includes many producers, working from their homes, typically part time. Some industries which are usually operated from large centralized factories were cottage industries before the Industrial Revolutions. The use of the term has expanded, and is used to refer to any event which allows a large number of people to work part time. Business operators would travel around, buying raw materials, delivering them to people who would work on them, and then collecting the finished goods to sell, or typically to ship to another market. This was ironically, one of the factors which allowed the Industrial Revolution to spread in Western Europe through the presence of these business people who had the ability to expand the scale of their operations from mass production. Cottage Industries were very common in the time when a large proportion of the population was engaged in agriculture, because the farmers (and their families) often had both the time and the desire to earn additional income during the part of the year (winter) when there was little farming work to do [Wikipedia Putting-out system].

Information on Work at Home Parents shows from a historical perspective that it was a common theme throughout cultures and Society’s. As societies changed with Compulsory Education and the various Industrial Revolutions around the 1800′s occurred, Parents working at Home with Children became less an less common. The Work Balance era of the 1980′s started making work from home more popular again. Today issues such as Carbon Taxing, Rising Fuel Costs, Violence in Schools and the Work Place, Terrorism, Disease Plaques, are driving forces behind the idea of working from home for many Parents, attempting to avoid many of these consequences [Wikipedia Work at Home Parents].

The Modern Economy and Technologies are contributing extensively to the Work at Home Trend. Today we use more modern terms such as Freelancers, Outsourcing, Telecommute, Remote, Work at Home, Home Based Business, Green Industry at Home, and many more. Have we really Changed, or do we desire the lost conviviality early Artisans, Farmers, and Shop Keepers, enjoyed with their families at home? A Fellowship, possibly a need, for most of us lost to the ideals of Advanced Productivity Standards, yet ironically revived by the same processes that nearly brought an end to it.

More and more people are working from home and there are many reasons for this, and with the increased amount of jobs that you will be able to find, it might be for you. Millions of people worldwide work from home and they will all have their own reasons for doing so. For some it is convenient, fits in with their families and some just prefer to work from home online. For some it is the ideal way to make money and if you can focus and work at home then you might be able to find your ideal job.

Many people dream of being their own boss and deciding what hours they want to work in a week. If this is you then you will be able to find a job easily. You may need certain skills to be able to work from home online but if you research the different jobs you are bound to find one. Although you may need certain skills you will not need to be sociable or attractive to work from home. As long as you understand that when you sit down at the computer that it is work then you will do well. You do need a certain amount of concentration and focus to succeed in this type of job.

If you find that your mind wanders and you cannot do one task at a time then you might find that a work from home online job difficult. Once you have established what job you can do then there are some great benefits to finding a work from home job. If you have children then you will no longer need a babysitter as they can be in the house with you while you work. You can also spend more time with the whole family as you set your hours to suit you.

When you work from home there are no set hours so you can decide when you work and when you don’t as long as the work is completed. If you prefer to work in the evening then this is possible with a work from home online job. You can do as much or as little as you want to suit your lifestyle and needs. You will also save on the travel expenses and clothing bills as you will not need to travel to work or get dressed for the job. Getting ready in the morning will take less time when you work from home and the laundry bill will be decreased.

You will have a better lifestyle when you work from home online as you will have more energy, money and less stress. You will be able to do more for yourself and this will make you feel great, you can work the same hours as your partner and then finish work when they come in the door. You will find it easier if you have a separate area for work so that when you have finished you can close the door and walk away. You will often find that once you work from home online that you never go back to a normal job ever again.
