Today is a tough time for anyone trying to find a job. In July the news reported that there is only one job being created for every five individuals needing work. Last week it was reported that unemployment is still heading toward double digits. What can we do to ensure that our future is safe from the turmoil in our current economic system.
My answer is that we need to re-think our approach to jobs and work. If we have been employed in a position for many years, this is really a confusing thought. However, if we decide to use this new economic situation to improve our long-term opportunities, we are not as frustrated, concerned and scared for what will happen to us tomorrow. I can say this with all honesty, because the past year has been a tremendous source of frustration for me. My job has been rendered basically useless and even my back-up plans no longer are viable.
Today, I was thinking about it and how I would like to approach helping all those people that call me looking for jobs. I feel bad when I have to tell each individual that the job market is still very slow and I have nothing to offer them at the time. My thoughts brought me to the old saying:
Give A Person A Fish and He Can Eat For A Day
Teach A Person To Fish And They Can Eat for a Lifetime.
Considering what we see around us today and how difficult it is to find a job today, it makes sense to consider finding a “job” or “work” that will not only add to your financial security but to your long-term happiness and success. If you were feeling “burned out” before the down-turn of the economy, it is likely that when you interview for that same job today, an employer can sense your feelings and, with the economy being in such an insecure state, that future employer may decide against giving you a job offer. We all have other interests other than the job we have performed for so many years, what are yours?
Passion creates success and motivation.
Again, this statement is from my heart and I have just experienced it for myself. Finding out what will create a real passion for your job may be the answer for you to find a job that will bring the personal success you seek. This is not an easy task but well worth the effort. Personally, I have decided the direction and goal, but still in the process of learning how to monotize my goals. Luckily, the recruiting business has come back enough to support me somewhat through this time, but only like a part-time income. A part-time job or a job that is really not your goal, may be what you need to do while you are creating your “Perfect Future Career” , but knowing you have a “goal” in mind, will get you through it.
There are many sources to help you in your process and I have used most of them over the past year, so check out some of the ones I suggest or find some on your own. Just begin the process and you may find that your future becomes brighter than you expected.
I hope I am providing you with information that helps – That Is My Passion!!
Best of Luck Always – Debbie Foster
